Britain faces a serious shortage of donor sperm, reported representatives of the British Society of infertility / BDB / quoted by the BBC. To meet the growing demand for artificial insemination the clinics are forced to actively import semen from other countries.

According to the chairman of the BDB Dr. Allan Pacey, due to lack some clinics will be forced to condescen their requirements for donors. This in turn will lead to lower quality of donor material, which will force physicians to use to fertilize more invasive and costly methods.

According to the official statistics, every fourth sample of donor sperm in the UK today is imported.
